Writing: Essays

Michel de Montaigne, in inventing the essay as a genre, wrote that he aimed to record "some traits of my character and of my humors." The assumption being, of course, that those traits are worth recording. For me, they serve a simpler purpose: to reflect on my place in the world, and understand my journey through it, so that others and I may become more generous, creative, and broader-minded individuals.
